How does Vietladders work?
You create a profile on Vietladders, then sit back and wait. You only need to come back to Vietladders to update your profile when you get a new job or degree, or learn new skills. Potential employers search Vietladders, and if your profile matches what they're looking for, they pay you to interview.
-
What makes Vietladders different from a traditional job boards like Vietnamworks, Kiemviec or HRVietnam?
Traditional job boards are aimed at people who are unemployed, soon to be unemployed, or unhappy at their current job and are generally junior in their career. Vietladders is for management level people who are happy at their current job and don't want to spend time searching job listings and applying for jobs.
-
Why would companies pay me to interview?
Management level professionals in Vietnam tend to be reluctant to post the resume on job sites. In stead, they rely on their own business network to find the next jobs. Therefore, for companies, the most time consuming and challenging part of the recruiting process is sourcing talent – the act of getting qualified professionals to listen. By giving you an incentive to listen and protect your privacy, Vietladders drastically speeds up the sourcing process and helps companies avoid the lost revenue that comes from having unfilled positions.
Additionally, by cutting out the middlemen (job boards, independent recruiters), employer save money and decrease their cost per hire.
-
What stops people from lying on their profile, or becoming a “professional interviewer”?
On the side of your profile, you'll see a “Statistics” module and a “Feedback” module. Every time you interview, your stats will be adjusted accordingly, and you'll receive feedback from the party that have contacted or interviewed you. Other potential employers viewing your profile can see your statistics and feedback and get a sense for your level of seriousness as a candidate.
Additionally, Vietladders protects companies against fraud - meaning that if an individual lies on their profile, the company can withhold payment. Anyone caught fabricating part or all of their profile will have their account terminated.
-
Do I have to apply for jobs?
No. Vietladders is not a job board like Vietnamworks. It's a service aimed at management level people who are currently employed and busy. You don't have to search through job postings or apply to anything. Companies and independent recruiters will find and contact you.
-
Will I get offers to interview?
Some combinations of skill, experience and education will receive numerous offers to interview, and others won't. In general, those individuals with good jobs who are in demand by employers tend to receive the most offers to interview.
While we cannot guarantee that you will receive offers to interview on Vietladders, we can give you one hint: the more detailed your profile, the more likely you are to get offers to interview.
-
What constitutes an interview?
It varies – whenever you get an offer to interview, the potential employer will tell you what kind of interview they want (i.e. 20 minutes on the phone, 3 hours in their office, 30 minutes at a coffee shop). Depending on who is making the offer, the position, and how badly they need to fill it, the interview type will vary from your asking price to zero.
-
Am I guaranteed to get my asking price for an interview?
The price you will be paid for an interview is the price you and the potential employer agree upon before you accept their offer to interview - which may or may not be your asking price.
Because not all interviews are the same, we give potential employers the option to be flexible in the amounts they offer you to interview. For instance, if all a potential employer wants is to speak with you on the phone for 15 minutes, they may offer you less money than if they want you to come into their office for 2 hours.
If a potential employer makes you an offer for less money than you'd like, you can counter the offer (i.e. say you'll speak to them, but at a higher price). You are also free to decline any offers you don't find interesting.
-
What if I'm offered less money for an interview than I'd like?
If you're offered less money than you'd like for an interview, you can counter the offer. To do so, click the “Counter Offer” button on the interview offer page, and then enter the price at which you're willing to accept the interview.
-
How does a counter offer work?
If you receive an interview offer you're somewhat interested in, but it isn't worth your while at the price the potential employer is suggesting, you can counter the offer. When you counter an offer, you give the potential employer a price at which you'll speak with them. Potential employers have the option to accept or decline your counter offer.
To counter an offer, simply click the “Counter Offer” button on the interview offer page, and then input the price you're seeking.
-
How long after the interview is over do I get paid?
We will credit your account after we receive money from the companies at the end of every month. Once your account balance reaches 100 USD, we will transfer the money to your Vietnamese bank account.
-
Why would I want to hide my profile from anyone?
Hiding your profile from your current employer blocks them from seeing that you're on Vietladders, and (if you've interviewed via Vietladders) it also prevents them from seeing that you've interviewed other places.
-
How does Vietladders Privacy Control work?
We map every corporate account to the corresponding email domain (i.e. the XYZ Bank and has email addresses that end in @xyzbank.com). If a user doesn't want to be found by the XYZ Bank, they enter “xyzbank.com” into the block domain field. Doing this will prevent anyone from XYZ Bank from finding the user or viewing their profile.
-
What stops my boss from signing up with a Gmail or Yahoo account and finding me?
We screen the companies that create Vietladders Corporate accounts just like we screen professionals that apply. To get a corporate account, a company needs to have a website and a corresponding email domain. This means that corporate accounts can't be created with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or any other personal email accounts.
For instance, someone recruiting for the XYZ Bank would need to sign up with an email address that has a @xyzbank.com domain. They cannot change the email domain (the @xyzbank.com part) without getting approval from us.
-
If I block a company or independent recruiter, will they know I've blocked them?
No. If you a block a company or independent recruiter, they won't even know you have a Vietladders account to block them with.
-
Who are independent recruiters and why would I want to block them?
"Independent recruiters" (also known as "head hunters") are recruiters who are not part of the company they are conducting the search for. Independent recruiters may be working for your company, but have a different email domain (i.e. NamViet HR Services ltd. is recruiting for the XYZ Bank). Blocking independent recruiters will increase your privacy, but may result in fewer offers to interview, as many companies supplement their recruiting by using independent recruiters.
-
When I preview my Vietladders search profile, I see “Member …” instead of my name. Why?
In order protect your privacy, we hide your name and contact details from prospective employers until you accept an offer to interview with them. What a prospective employer will see instead of your name is your member number.
